Rising costs for health care and employee salaries create high costs for all organizations. With the need for skilled labor and more importantly production training is necessary to assist the bottom line. Yet research shows that training is not used effectively in most organizations and can be a drain to the bottom line.
There exists many methods for training success yet there are some issues to watch for in case of failure.
ROI Requirement - Too many training companies exist without following through on a return on investment. Never subscribe to a company that cannot back up nor guarantee effectiveness.
Event Training - Training is meant to augment conflict or modify behavior. Simply put, behavior modification cannot occur in seven hours. It takes as longer to modify behavior that has existed from years of habits and beliefs.
Follow Up Systems - Too many programs are so focused on the event, no follow up exists. Smile sheets do not ensure program success. Coaching, counseling and mentoring are needed feedback systems.
Certified Trainers - So much emphasis is placed on trainers with training credentials. When you need a plumber do you seek the person with a level of degrees or referrals from friends or neighbors? Certification does not make good training just as numerous degrees do not make for a great physician. And who certifies the certification?
Metrics - Training is a waste until metrics are used before and after a program. How do you comprehend value when you do not understand outcomes?
